A Little About WOCA
White Oak Christian Academy (WOCA) is a homeschool support group and cooperative. We seek to support homeschooling families by offering cooperative classes, group events (Art Show, Used Curriculum Sale), social gatherings, field trips for all ages as well as annual IOWA testing and a high school graduation.
History
White Oak Christian Academy started classes as TLC in the Fall of 1999 with just 5 families. Through the years, it has grown and evolved with over 70 families joining us through the years. Students in our group range from infant through high school.
Purpose
White Oak Christian Academy is a group of Christian homeschool families joining together to educate our children for the glory of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Each family shares its resources to benefit others who are also seeking to educate, evangelize, and equip their children through the nurturing environment of the home. The White Oak mission is not to be a burden to the homeschool family but to provide encouragement and fellowship as well as educational support. Since White Oak does not offer umbrella services, we are not responsible for the quality or quantity of any home education family curriculum.
Cooperative Classes
Cooperative classes are held for ten consecutive each semester (Fall & Winter) on Mondays from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. To meet the academic demands of our older students, several of our middle and high school classes extend to fourteen weeks each semester. Classes are available for children Kindergarten through high school with preschool and nursery programs available for siblings only.
To ensure students progress through their education without repeating, cooperative classes are offered on a four year rotating cycle. However, WOCA offers almost all the middle and high school Apologia science courses every year. It is our desire to make our cooperative classes academic enough to give up a day of your homeschool but fun enough for the kids to want to attend.
Field Trips
As a cooperative group, field trips are coordinated by group members. Field trips are advertised over our email loop.
Events
We have several events a year including spirit days, an art show, a used curriculum sale, a spring social, and a graduation ceremony.
Statement of Group Doctrine
1) The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and constitutes completed and final revelation. The Bible, in its original autograph, is without error in whole and in part, including theological concepts as well as geographical and historical details.
2) God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was God come in human flesh being fully God and fully man, except without sin.
3) All men are in violation of Gods righteous requirements and His holy character both by nature and act, and are therefore under His wrath and just condemnation. The central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for mans sin through His substitutionary death on the cross, the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection.
4) Salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.
5) This above Statement of Group Doctrine adopted from Christian Home Educators Network (CHEN, www.chenmd.org) acknowledges that we welcome all Christians and cannot be all inclusive of every point of doctrine held by specific churches or denominations. We ask that cooperative families whole heartedly believe and practice the above basic core beliefs of the Christian faith. Cooperative families who are our teaching families must sign a statement of agreement as well as attend a Jesus Christ centered church.
6) All families involved in White Oak Christian Academy must review this group doctrine and respect these beliefs during WOCA activities. We also ask that members do not publicly speak negatively against any particular denomination during White Oak meetings and events.
